In this special concert, every singer in the program shares a single stage. Five-year-olds hear where their voices are headed. Our oldest singers see exactly where they started. And for one afternoon, an audience gets the whole arc of this organization in a single sitting.

The name is the idea. A mosaic is many distinct pieces, each keeping its own color, assembled into something none of them could be alone — which is a fair description of what happens when a two hundred young people learn to sing together.

Just hours after Winter Mosaic ends, the same cathedral fills again for something different. Radiance belongs to our middle and high school singers — familiar winter repertoire alongside contemporary and global voices.

Where Winter Mosaic is the full breadth of the program, Radiance is depth: warmth, cohesion, and the particular sound of older singers who have been doing this a while. It's an invitation into the winter season, and the closest thing PYC has to a hearth.

Winter Mosaic and Radiance are separate concerts on the same afternoon. Singers in Cascadia, Pacific, and Chamber perform in both.

The centerpiece is Elaine Hagenberg's Illuminare — thirty minutes of an hour-long program, setting lesser-known sacred Latin, Greek, and English texts. It moves through beauty disrupted by darkness and confusion, and then light returning, gradually, until hope is restored.

It asks a great deal of these singers: sustained musical architecture, real technical and expressive demand, and the discipline of holding a long arc without rushing to resolve it. It is the artistic turning point of the season, and the repertoire our most advanced singers have been building toward.

The season finale brings every ensemble back together for an expansive, forward-facing program — and the world premiere of a new work commissioned from Dr. Marques L.A. Garrett.

Horizon is deliberately not a retrospective. It's the sound of an organization that has spent a year building something and can see further than it could in September. Everything this season made arrives here, at the edge of what comes next: PYC's 25th anniversary season.
