This season, we honor the rich traditions that have guided us while embracing bold, genre-defying works that push the boundaries of choral artistry. Elements invites us to reflect on the forces that sustain and inspire us, revealing the limitless possibilities of collective song.

Choral Ascend
8th Grade and high school singers from across Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington join together for a transformative day of music-making on September 20, 2025. This free festival features internationally renowned conductor and composer Dr. Marques L. A. Garrett as clinician, leading participants through engaging repertoire that culminates in an unforgettable performance at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
The event also includes guest artists from Choral Arts Ensemble, providing mentorship and professional artistry to elevate the experience. Alongside student rehearsals, three no-cost educator workshops led by Dr. Garrett, 2025 National ACDA Honor Choir Conductor Chris Maunu, and other clinicians offer fresh classroom ideas, innovative choral pedagogy, and repertoire sharing.
This community event is free. Doors open at 4:30 PM for a 5:00 PM performance.
Alumni Concert
Don't miss Portland's best kept secret – our Alumni Concerts feature graduates from across our 22-year history, many of whom have continued their musical pursuits professionally and recreationally across the country.
This full-length concert features conducting from both our Artistic Director, Chris Maunu, as well as Founding Artistic Director, Mia Hall Miller. The concert continues our season theme of Elements, exploring how the fundamental forces that shaped these singers during their PYC years – resilience, innovation, tradition, and transformation – continue to influence their musical and personal journeys as they carry these elemental experiences into their adult lives.
