The choir as it stands today
Singers arrive from all over the Portland metro area, and cost does not decide who gets in.
Singers this season
Kindergarten through twelfth grade, coming from 114 schools across 48 zip codes.
Receive tuition assistance
Aid is need-based and confidential. No singer has ever been turned away from PYC because a family couldn't pay.
Seasons of singing
Two decades of Portland kids growing up in this room, and alumni now singing and teaching all over the country.
Know a kid who belongs in a room like this?
Point them our way. It's the single most useful thing anyone does for us, and it costs nothing.
No prior training is required, and no one needs to read music to start. We audition to place singers in the right ensemble, not to screen them out — and tuition assistance is available to any family who needs it, no explanation required.
Most of our singers arrived because someone told a family about us. A neighbor, a teacher, a parent at pickup. That's how this choir has grown for twenty-three years.

Some of it is a few hours once a year — greeting families at a concert, helping a retreat run smoothly. Some of it is a steady presence across the season. Almost none of it requires a musical background, just a willingness to help.
